Familiars are companions or spiritual guardians that most often take animal form, especially common in European folklore and fantasy. They’re known for the unique bond they share with their human, which can even involve psychic communication and shared emotions.
Simply send some photos of your pet (including any distinctive markings!) and let me know which fantastical item is your Pet Familiar’s speciality. Here are some objects they may be skilled in using -
mystical all-seeing orb / wand of sparks and sorcery / enchanted sword / broom stick (for flight as well as sweeping) / enchanted instrument / ghostling summoning sceptre / potion brew-set / dragon-(or other)-wings / book of magic / glowing pendant of protection / fire breath / will-o'-the-wisp lantern / bow + elemental arrow
I’ll then create your Beastly Worlds Pet Familiar Portrait in your choice of medium - either ink and watercolour or digital. I enjoy using both of these creative processes and they have quite different results!
Digital Portraits (£75)
I initially sketch the composition for these illustrations in pencil, before converting the initial drawing into a digital format. I then use a digital pencil and tablet to create the illustration, using multiple layers and digital brushes. This results in a more modern aesthetic with fun and bright colours.
Ink and Watercolour Portraits (£95)
I hand ink these illustrations using dip pen and black ink, before adding colours and textures with watercolour. I then scan the original painting for further editing to produce the final image. This process results in a more traditional aesthetic, with interesting textures and colour blending.
With this portrait bundle you get both a digital file of your portrait as well as a signed giclée print made with archival pigment inks on high quality fine art paper. There is also an option to include the original painting if you choose ink and watercolour medium. (£250)
Pet Familiar Portraits usually take up to 1 week to make and you will receive a digital file of the finished piece via email and your print in the post, although this may take a little longer in busy periods. If you need your Pet Familiar Portrait for a specific deadline then please let me know!
